Tipping Policy

Last updated: 11th October 2024

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to inform patrons of THE CUBE, Canary Wharf, of the way all tips are processed and allocated. Our commitment is to ensure that all qualifying tips are allocated to staff (including agency workers) in a fair and transparent way through the implementation of this policy, which is compliant with the Employment (Allocation of Tips) Act 2023 that comes into effect on 1st October 2024.

Scope

This policy applies to all staff including agency workers, both on permanent and casual contracts, but excludes managers who do not receive payments.

Eligibility

All staff are eligible from day one of employment with the company.

For the purpose of this policy, the optional 12.5% service charge (currently levied against food and beverage transactions online, via group bookings, and in the venue only) and individual gratuity payments received are defined as ‘tips’.

All service charge payments and gratuities are split evenly between both customer facing and non-customer facing staff based on the number of hours they have worked in the period. All staff are paid the same hourly calculation irrespective of their position or department within the business.

The workforce have been consulted on this tipping policy and have agreed to its implementation.

As a business, we do not deduct any charges from the tips that are raised and the staff receive 100% of all monies from tipping.

The tips that are raised in the venue are not pooled together with other sites. The full amount generated at THE CUBE, Canary Wharf, in the month will be paid to staff by the end of the following month. The Tronc amount will be calculated by our independent Troncmaster overseeing the scheme. These tips (or Tronc) payments are subject to Tax but exempt from National Insurance.

Staff will not be eligible for payments during periods of holiday, sickness, unpaid leave, maternity leave or paternity leave, or any other absence – i.e. the hours they are away from the business during these periods will not count towards their hours worked for the overall Tronc calculation for the period.

The Troncmaster scheme reserves the right to withhold any Tronc awards if a member of the Tronc is dismissed from employment, or fails to work the required notice period in full.

Our tipping (or Tronc) scheme is managed by an independent third party Troncmaster who are fully aware of the Tipping Act and Code of Practice. Employees may raise any questions regarding the general operation of the scheme, or their own personal award, with the Troncmaster’s Team.

Any complaints regarding the scheme will be emailed directly to the General Manager who will respond directly with the employee. If the employee is not satisfied with the response provided, there is a process in place to escalate the matter.

All records of tips will be retained for three years by the venue.

If customers would like any further clarification regarding this tipping policy, they should email hello@bookthecube.com.

The company reserves the right to review and amend the policy from time to time and will consult with staff should there be any changes.
